Parcels Outside of the Kaweah Subbasin boundary

The boundary of the Kaweah Groundwater Subbasin was defined by the California Department of Water Resources in a document called California’s Groundwater (Bulletin 118). The next update to California’s Groundwater will be published in 2025.

The current boundary of the Kaweah Subbasin is imperfect and may split or exclude parcels that are part of your farming operation. This is especially common in Greater and East Kaweah along the foothills.

East Kaweah GSA Policy

Any parcel or portion of a parcel that is outside of the Bulletin 118 boundary is not regulated by EKGSA and therefore will not receive any native groundwater credits, will not have ET data, and will not have surface water reported/credited to land outside the GSA boundary.

The parcels outside of the boundary will not be included in any landowners water account on the water dashboard. If a parcel is split by the boundary line - only the portion inside the boundary will be used in the water account.

Example: 100 acre parcel is bifurcated by the Bulletin line (say 20 acres out of the basin and 80 acres in the basin). EKGSA only assesses and regulates the acres within the EKGSA portion of the basin (in the case of the example, we assess the 80 acres and we observe ET on the 80 acres we do not assess or observe the 20 acres not within the boundary of the EKGSA).

Greater Kaweah GSA Policy

This policy has not been formally established as of June 2022. Please contact the GSA for more information.
